Peters Family History

6 Months Old

Brady frequents our blog - checking for updates. He's probably checking yours too! How are you doing? I have good intentions but sadly this is the bottom of the totem pole. We had a lesson in Relief Society a few weeks ago about family history. A gal in the ward pointed out that there is a season for all things. And right now her time is devoted to raising children. She also pointed out that she can contribute in another way - By keeping their Personal Family History. So, this is my attempt...

Brady blessed Waylon & Whitley May 3, 2009

Uncle Brighten Graduates From High School!

Waylon Wayne and Great Grandpa Wayne Sherwood

Note: Whitley's Great Grandpa Robert GENE Boone flew out this summer from Georgia. I didn't have my camera so everyone else took pictures for me but No One will email em to me. Her namesake post to come... Hopefully!

Now this is Double Trouble!

Bryant's archery deer hunt. Since Bryant had a stroke back in April(?) he got to hunt with Brigham's cross bow. ALL the boys were excited about this. He didn't tag out, but everyone had a good time.

I'm Daisy Peters and I'm here to say
I'll try to help you in every way
To serve you all is why I'm here
Just give me a chance to get in gear

Don't Be Crazy Vote 4 Daisy - You got my vote Kid. Dad and I are proud of you.

Daisy's Inauguration Party was held at Strayhorse

The babies first weekend trip to Strayhorse

The mountain air did them some good. They slept Beautifully!!!

Shooting chipmunks...

This picture was taken right after a LENGTHY lecture about how Brady doesn't hunt on Sunday and how you can keep the sabbath day holy even while in the woods. Uh huh... You were saying?

"Uncle Piggy" and "Sissy Girl"

Oh how this little girl loves you! She gets so excited every time she sees Brigham that her whole little body just shakes.

We love Grandma and Grandpa Peters!!! Thanks for Babysitting!!!

For those who don't know: Waylon was named after his grandpa Waylon "Keith" Peters NOT Waylon Jennings... although we do enjoy his music. Sadly, Whitley WAS named after Keith Whitley. I also enjoy his music and while listening to my iPod one day he came on and I thought huh, that would be a cute name. I wanted something different, but easy to spell. So there you have it.

FREEDOM!

This was after a LONG trip to Wal Mart. They were both cranky so I tossed em a Teether Biscuit and off we went. Although it was a HUGE mess, they were content. And of coarse we ran into Everybody we knew that day! Boy were they happy to get home and out of those dang car seats!

Labor Day Weekend 2009 - Strayhorse Ranch

Brigham, Whitley, Jozie, Daisy and Brighten

Daisy gets in some quality time with Brother and Sister

It's Daddy Time

Hand Me Downs

Daisy wore these Carharts when she was a baby. They were then passed on to Teracey. These made it through 5 of Tanjala's kids and were then given back for Waylon and now Whitley to wear. Can't wait till they fit into Brady's old overalls!

Finally trying to crawl.

In the mean time I'll keep rolling over or scooting on my back.

Jozie is a Fantastic Babysitter! These two play so well together.
Jozie looks more like Brother than Whitley!

Waylon likes this guy too. Sorry ladies. He's putting in his papers and will be unavailable the next 2 years!
Who looks more like Brady: Brighten OR Waylon?

Show Me The Love

These two knot heads are finally interacting. I caught them cuddling for the very first time! Of coarse they broke it up as soon as they figured out I was watching. They were laying this way with their faces toward each other, cheeks touching, bottles crossing... Aaah - So cute.

Hey... Duder Dude! You're supposed to swallow your food!

And daddy - The Boy is to be fed in his Bumbo, in the Kitchen, with a Bib

Sissy LOVES Kitty

The NICU nurses gave Whitley this Kitty right after she was born. I took a picture of her lying next to Kitty and Whitley was just barely bigger if you can believe that. She loves to chew on Kitty. And the extremity of choice - Kitty's tail. Here she is asleep with Kitty's tail still in her mouth. Now she only gets Kitty at nap time or bedtime. You've never seen a kid so excited to go to Sleep!

How Do You Make Babies Behave?

Make them THINK they're getting into trouble! These two Love getting into everything they're Not Supposed to be getting into! So I put their toys in baskets or boxes and they have a field day ripping everything out. On a slow day I pick up toys at least 15 times a day. If you came to our home you'd think I'm a slob, but really I have toys and "curious items" strategically placed where the babies can just get to them. This buys me loads of free time!

Daddy's A Big Game Hunter

Archery Bull Elk - Unit... I don't remember. It's a fantastic story. Ask him about it, he'd LOVE to tell you every detail!

Note: Waylon will follow in daddy's footsteps. BP sent me pictures on my phone and the boy was so excited he kept clapping and clapping. I'm not sure if it was the monster elk or cuz he finally got his grubby lil paws on my phone! Also he said his 1st official word that day: BUG

Great-Great Aunt Dale (From GA) and Great-Grandma Brimhall with babies.

Whitley LOVES Uncle Brad. Look, I have hair!

Cool Dude

Jess, Aunt Dale, Miss

Yup, I have "Mom Hair" BUT I'm back in my skinny jeans!

Howdy Ya'll

Why Are We Late For Church? The 1:00 session!

Ideally the babies shower with Brady Sunday morning. On this particular occassion daddy declined. So off to the tub for some rub a dub dub - by the mama. I had to run something to Melissa and took Whitley with me cuz daddy doesn't do as well as mommy with two babies. I get home with just over 30 mins to spare and BPz going off about how we're gonna be late for church. Huh? All I have to do is throw babies in church clothes and we're rolling it. That's when I notice the boy is soaking wet with no diaper. What the? I just gave the kid a bath! Apparently Brady thought it would be a good idea to turn the boy loose with some Teether Biscuits, Oreos and I'm not sure what all. In daddy's defense he did put the boy in his Bumbo - which was now torn apart and sitting next to the kitchen sink... Filthy Dirty! Brady did give Waylon Another bath - in the Mud Room sink! I don't even wanna go there but suffice it to say NaStY. I've been told the pictures don't do it any justice - My little man was a mess!

But here's MY baby...

All Dolled Up and Ready To Roll - Thanks again Grandma Hazel for Whitley's BEAUTIFUL Sunday dresses. She's always a BIG hit!

Brady's a Professional Horse Shoe-er... What are they called? Oh, Ferrier he says

Keeping all of the stock nicely trimmed and shod.

Brighten's assignment - Keep these two jokers busy!

Strap em in the Ranger - Good thinking!

Oops - Waylon got into the Teething Tablets
You have to Enlarge this to do it any justice...

Happy Happy Birthday Brady Dear - 32... Scary!

I Love You Daddy! Thanks for all the early morning "chats" and all the whisker burns (I really do like them... he he) Sissy Girl

I Love You Daddy! Thanks for playing rough with me and sneaking me all that yummy Ice Cream! You're the Greatest! Brother

Daddy got a Guitar and Mama can't wait to be serenaded! Hopefully we can snuggle up around a cozy campfire at Strayhorse this winter!

Hmmm - Someday we'll take a nice picture together! Till then...

Daisy's stoked - Whitley "finely" has hair!

Unit 27 White Tail Hunt
I've attached a FEW pictures for your viewing pleasure!

Brady spotted and shot this monster white tail at 700 yds using Mama as his spotter. It was an eventful morning. Brady is quite the hunter, but got more than he bargained for! After gutting his deer he worked his way back out of some nasty country. I was supposed to follow the trail (I use the term loosely) back to the truck, but apparently hopped a few trails and ended up on what appeared to be a game trail in the middle of who knows where! With the radios about dead we fired a few shots back and forth and long story short Brady found me!!! Have I told you lately how much I Love You? You're My HERO! I never panicked - I was fully confident that Brady would find me. By the way - He is an AMAZING glasser!!!

Stay tuned for more Big Game Adventures as Brady has a final white tail hunt next month on the San Carlos...

Our friend Clint Lilly's deer. Also an amazing story - He spotted, shot and killed this beauty All By Himself! Impressive!!!

I'm FINALLY caught up! Maybe I'll shoot for a MUCH shorter weekly or realistically monthly post!

Let's See If I Remember How To Do This...

I haven't uploaded any pictures recently but these will be new to you. And I'm missing a whole month or so of pictures so I don't know what went wrong there! But here it is - Just some random pictures and thoughts. And not in any particular order. They didn't post right but I'm not about to go through and fix it. This is very long so if you make it through this Congratulations! Maybe next time you will be careful what you ask for!

Since Marcia refuses to post on her blog these are her adorable babies. Ok so they're 2 now. That's sweet little Sean and my feisty little Morgan. And if you were wondering those are Marcia's sexy legs - I'm so jealous of her calves! Also not pictured are Daisy and Dallin - I'm sure they were off fighting in the distance. So I ran across this picture and had to post it because... This is what I was doing when I got the call from the Fertility Treatment Center confirming that I was "definitely pregnant!!!" No one knew (for sure anyways) that we went ahead and did the in-vitro. I gave myself my first two sub-cutaneous shots on Mother's Day 08 (hot damn it's a good thing it took or I woulda been ticked!) in the hotel (I knew they'd find my needles in the garbage and think we were junkies) before skipping breakfast to head to Flagstaff where Chandler (Happy B-Day - Bryant and April's first who was born on Mom Day) turned twelve and received the Aaronic Priesthood. Oh and just a side note - On the way to Flag Brady informed me that I was NOT a mother. That's right - No card, No present, No surprise really but Seriously you could have Fed Me! And just so ya know I can now confirm that step parenting is ten times harder than being a parent, thank you very much. So while in Flag it was fun to keep non chalantly (yeah right) switching out the ice packs on the almost $2,000.00 worth of meds (thank goodness for Care Credit) I had stored in my suitcase. Anyhow. After weeks of daily injections and estrogen patches you can imagine how my tummy looked - not bathing suit material. And I was still getting used to the daily sub-muscular injections I gave myself in the hip. If I bumped into anything I seriously wanted to cry and I'm pretty sure I wasn't walking right, so how was I supposed to swim? Plus poor Marcia had been through this (without any complaints I might add - that's right I'm a wuss) so if anyone was gonna call me out this was the girl. And of coarse nothing ever goes as planned. I was too scared to ever "Pee on a Stick" (this seriously upset the husband) so driving down to the valley that morning I had no idea what the results would be. But I had the day all planned out - Pick up DP at the Peters (of coarse her mom is late and she's not there) before heading to FTC for the blood work (these people run a TIGHT schedule and would Marcia notice all the pricks in my arms?) and the Apothecary Shop to "Pick up Medicine" (the excuse I gave Daisy for the delay) before heading back to Marcia's for some Fun in the Sun. Unfortunately while having my blood drawn I was informed that swimming was out of the question - Are you freaking kidding me? So off to Marcia's we go with the lame excuse that I forgot my bathing suit. But no worries her sister has one I can use - Great! But it did come with a tank top and some cute board shorts so I accepted. We get to the pool and I hang out on the steps, under the umbrella with the babies. I overhear Dallin telling Daisy that since the twins came "They're (me and Marcia) not fun anymore!" So I'm waiting for the call trying not to over think things - But I'd say I was pretty much a wreck. After being on all those hormones I had no idea how I was gonna react if I was or even wasn't pregnant. Could I keep together? My phone rings and I am so scared to answer it. The gal is super nice and gets right to it. She says Jessica the numbers look good. You are definitely pregnant! What? Really? She started rattling off something about the numbers but I don't remember anything else she said. I feel like Marcia's eyeballing me. When they confirmed her pregnancy she literally started jumping up and down. I'm just thinking Act Normal, Act Normal... What the hell is normal? This lady on the phone thinks that after all the time, money, and PAIN I'm not even excited to be having a baby! I confirm another appointment, thank her and say goodbye. Trying to hold back the smile I feel growing from ear to ear I tell Marcia I need a picture of her sweet babies and captured this with my phone. These two munchkins call both babies Whickey. And now all babies, cell phones, you name it are Whickey. Note: Yes I hold grudges and my poor babies will hear again and again everything I (NOT Dad) went through to get them here. Yes they will be reminded again and again that only ONE of them would be here if it had been up to Dad. I am the reason they BOTH got to be here. Most importantly - Yes it was worth Everything we went through (hospitalized bed rest and all) to get them here and we would do it all again. We love you guys and are so thankful to have two beautiful, healthy Test Tube babies!!!

Whitley and Mom. Do you think she looks like me?

Mother's Day and this is the only picture I got with my babies. Sad.

I'm always so concerned about trying to get Brady to smile for pictures that I end up looking like this! You look handsome babe. Good Job.

Oh Grandma Cynthia what would I have done without you? Always coming to see me in the hospital (5 wks if anyone forgot). Then keeping me company when I'd go back to the hospital to see the babies for 3 more weeks. During which time you provided food and board for this crazy blonde! Then to come home with me for 1 more week to help out. And you still have a husband and 3 kids at home with basketball games and I don't even wanna go into everything else you always have going on! You are the BEST mother in law a girl could have. Thank You!!! I Love You!!!

I love this picture. Uncle Britain and Grandma Cynthia. Whitley is a very particular child and by that I mean it takes some work to figure out what she wants! She is either all smiles or screaming - No in between. But she loves her Uncle Britain.

K don't know why this is sideways. I think Paetyn decided that Twins Do Not In Fact Rock! She was having a grand old time being the center of attention getting pulled around in the wheel barrow till these two jokers came along and crashed her party.

Another post for Marcia. What can I say I wanna be just like you! Twins and all! I love ya!

Jarom Loved "Little Whickey!" The kids wanted to love on em too but I was a Freak about RSV so they weren't allowed. Sean did manage to snag their binkies though! He's a sly little fellow.

The twins with Paetyn. She's only 2 1/2 months older. If that. I remember Whitley's little bird legs. She would stretch them out and the skin would all gather and pucker at the knee. In the hospital the first thing Brady said was Well the sister got your long skinny legs!

Great Grandma Ann and Great Grandpa Wayne when they were first released from St. Joe's.

Did I ever put this picture on here? This was at 2 months. So cute.

Whitely got buzzed with mom's trimmers for her first haircut. The girl's a diva and loves to have her head massaged so she thoroughly enjoyed all the vibrations. Silly goose. She doesn't look much different except the shadow of fuzz is gone. It's been a week now and she's already due for a touch up!

Before

During

Waylon's first hair cut. And it was long over do! He was born with hair and besides where the head gear in the hospital rubbed off his corners it never fell out. So needless to say at 4 months it was beyond time for a haircut. We started out on the changing table with mom's cape draped out, then with the boppy underneath but this guy was too squirmy so I put him in the swing and waited for him to fall asleep. That worked for the top and kinda the sides, but by then he woke up. So the next day I put him in his Bumbo and waited for him to fall asleep and we got the job done. It's cute. I went as short as possible so I wouldn't have to cut it again anytime soon. Brady's mad cuz he wanted to give "The Boy" his first haircut. Next time I'm opting for Clippers instead of Scissors.

Mom I'm not gonna tolerate many more of these kisses. Back Off! Baby Sister

What are you doing silly girl? This reminded me of Austin Powers.

You's Handsome Bubbas! This was after his first haircut. I'm good, I know! He's totally rocking the Mini Mohawk.

My babies LOVE bath time. Especially since graduating from the kitchen sink to the bath tub. We were just in the valley for Brighten's graduation and I bathed them in their kitchen sink where Grandpa Keith gave them their very first baths. It was sad to see them bonking their heads and banging their hands and feet. They've grown so much. They used to just swim in that sink. This is them in the tub at home. And that's their Iron supplement all over Whitley's face.

This picture goes something like this. Mom is holding Waylon and instructs daddy to take the Bumbo out. Dad says What am I carrying this for? I wanna hold the Boy. Mom says No I'm gonna feed him some Green Beans. Dad says I wanna feed him some Green Beans. Wait - Why are we feeding him Green Beans? Brady HATES Green Beans. Ha Ha The Boy Likes Em!

Yes these babies have a mother. This is her if you were wondering!

The other feeding method.

Daddy/Daughter

RSV season is over so we are off to church for the first time. That's Waylon's car seat straps, not a vest. Brady took these two pictures on his phone to send to Teesha. He said My kid's cuter than yours. This one too. Teesha was a good sport. We love you and especially the very adorable Miss Paetyn.

Whitley's big debut at Church. Great Grandma Hazel gave us the most adorable dresses and I love dressing her up on Sundays. She's usually a pretty good sport about it. I think in this picture she knew she looked pretty cuz she was really hamming it up for the camera.

Daisy and Malarie. Poor kid. Came up for Spring Break but couldn't have anyone over with the babies and RSV going around. Thank You to everyone for letting us be rude and invite Daisy to play at Your House! She did have a fun week. You're all awesome.

Whitley Gene, you are my sunshine! Mama loves you Baby Girl!

Just too stinkin cute.

Missy - You were right... Like Father Like Son!

I still can't get over that my little preemie babies are getting so big. This night I was feeding the sister some baked potato off of my plate - She loved it! The girl's tiny but holy cow is she a porker. She out eats Waylon pretty near every feeding - Can't say much she gets it from me! The brother was not into the potato so Dad tried shoving some cookie down his throat. Do you see the crumbs all over his face? I don't think he succeeded in getting much in. Note to Self for the next feeding - Waylon Does Not like Chocolate!

Whitley does NOT look like BP although she did inherit 2 of his best qualities. #1 Those gorgeous dimples - YES Brady you have dimples. And most importantly #2 His Amazing Self Esteem. This girl is very enamored with herself. That's a mirror hanging from her play set and she can stare at herself for hours just ooohing and aaaahing about who knows what. Before we go out BRADY stands in front of the mirror and says Ooo Wee You Good Looking. I roll my eyes and remind him that I look pretty good too.

Waylon's favorite babysitter - Miss Jozie Sue. My two little Chunk A Dunks. We love this little girly. Whitley and now pretty much every baby she see's is "Willie". We finally convinced her that the Blue One is a boy and his name is Waylon. But Jozie calls him "Wayne". Hey it's a lot easier to say alright?

So there you have it. At 4 months Whitley is finally on the growth charts! Hooray! That means we've graduated from the high dollor preemie formula to Costco brand. Yea! She weighed 10 lb 9 oz and was in the 1% for weight and 9% for height. Her head is not quite on the charts. That's ok sis - Mama has a small head too. Waylon weighed 13 lb 1 oz and was in the 8% for weight, 31% for height but his head was only in the 3%. So they continue to grow like crazy and doing this post makes me very sad to look back and see how small my babies were and how much they've grown. While I look forward to each new stage I miss everything they were before. If that even makes sense. One funny thing is that Waylon is all Boy and Whitley is all Girl. I put him to bed in a diaper and when I check on him he's sweating with all his covers kicked off. The sister goes to bed in long sleeve jammies and when I check on her she's covered from head to toe in covers, trying to nestle up against brother, with cold hands and cold feet. That's about the only time she's cuddly. Also people had a couple ? that I never answered. I did not have a C-Section. Each baby came out with 3 pushes. I was expecting some drama, but got none. The night before I had them I got an epidural so I had the best sleep you can imagine. Woke up, had the babies in under 15 minutes and we were on our way. I went "home" the next day. Also I breast fed for 4 1/2 months and just gave it up last week. They finally got to where they prefered the bottle so I didn't put up a fight. It was gradual so thankfully no pain there. So if I think of anything else I'll post about it someday. Till then, Peace Out!

OK - This Is For All Of Our Devoted Fans... Especially Miss Kallie Rae

Alright Already - Here it is! An update with pics of the BABES. I was at St. Joe's for 5 LONG weeks. It's hard to stay DOWN when you feel FINE. I delivered the babies JAN 1 2009 (34 wks gestation) - Happy New Year. Thanks to DRUGS and SMALL BABIES all went well. Waylon Wayne made his debut at 6:23 am weighing 4 lb 11 oz. Ms. Whitley Gene graced us with her presence at 6:30 am. She weighed in at a whopping 3 lb 2 oz. She was BREACH but other than that NO complications. Waylon's lungs hadn't quite matured so he had OXYGEN treatments a few days but other than that TWO HEALTHY BABIES. We are so THANKFUL for that. They spent 3 WEEKS in the NyICU - Feeders and Growers. They were released Jan 23 - What a HAPPY day! So they are almost 2 months old now and they are WONDERFUL. Thanks to St. Joe's they are on a SCHEDULE and SLEEP through ANYTHING! Twins are Great. I don't know what you would do with JUST ONE baby - how BORING! Except of course when they are SICK and FUSS all day and keep you up ALL NIGHT - 4 nights in a ROW! Thank goodness we are PAST that. Brady was threatening to call CPS on me! The KIDS are growing like crazy - I can't believe how "BIG" they are already. Waylon is 7 lb 15 oz and Whitley should be about 6 lb 8 oz. Without any further ado - Introducing WAYLON & WHITLEY PETERS!!!

Temporarily Out of Commission

So we haven't posted in a while - Nothing new really. There's been a lot going on, but I've been laid up at St. Joe's down in Phoenix. I came down the day before Thanksgiving to see a perinatologist and they had me committed. Apparently I'd been having contractions, my cervix had shortened and I was dilated between 1 and 2 cm. So... Preterm Labor. Who knew!?! Long story short I will probably be here till I deliver (and I am still NOT happy about that). They did stop labor from progressing, but now they want to monitor the babies twice a day, Dopplers twice a week and growth ultrasounds every 2 weeks. Can't that be done on an out patient basis? I know Cynthia would take great care of me. She already has my room ready - They're even calling it "Jessica's Room" even though these doctors won't let me go home. So far both babies are healthy although the girl (Miss B) is only in the 3rd percentile for this gestational age. Hopefully I will make it to at least 34 weeks (longer if both babies are still doing good) and these kids will be healthy and we can get the heck outta Dodge! I miss Brady and can't wait to go home. Someday. I keep reminding myself that each additional day these kids stay in my tummy means three days they won't have to spend in the NICU. Thanks to everyone who comes to visit, brings me goodies and call to check in. Also appreciate the many prayers in our behalf. Love you all, Jessica

24 Wks As of 10.23.08

Twin A - "WAYLON"

"Waylon" is a BIG BOY! He weighs in at 1 lb 9oz. He's more than DOUBLED his weight since my LAST appointment. These pictures aren't NEAR as CLEAR as the actual ultrasound. I wish you could SEE how much this guy LOOKS like his DADDY! Brady had a POUR this morning so he couldn't MAKE IT so I talked my MOM into coming with me. It didn't take a whole lot of TALKING to get her to come - She was VERY EXCITED to meet these TWO. I was SHOCKED by how much he looked like Brady, but my MOM thinks he LOOKS like UNCLE BRIGHTEN. All I KNOW for SURE is this a PETERS KIDS - No Doubt About It! Dr. Tindall said he's still in PERFECT POSITION to try for a vaginal delivery - Thanks Buddy!!! He also said that he would "PLOW THE WAY" for his "little" sister. I'm NOT SURE if that's a GOOD thing or NOT... Sounds KINDA scary.

Twin B - "WILLY"

Our GIRL is a little more PETITE. Brady is HAPPY about this. He did NOT want a BIG BEEFY GIRL with a SCRAWNY Twin Brother! She WEIGHS in at 1 lb 3 oz. 1 more oz and she WOULD HAVE doubled her weight. I thought that was GOOD, but Dr. Tindall was CONCERNED because of the HUGE difference in their weight gains. He said it could simply be GENETICS - DADDY(? large) has more INFLUENCE on BROTHERS birth weight while MAMA (7 lbs 8oz) has more INFLUENCE on SISTERS birth weight -OR- They DO have SEPARATE placentas, but they FUSED in one spot. It COULD be that BROTHER is taking some of SISTERS nutrients. I may get another ultrasound down in the valley to DETERMINE if this is the CAUSE. But if it is, there's NOTHING they can do. Just watch SISTER to determine when it's SAFER for her to be taken OUT vs left IN. Brother will be at her MERCY. A MINOR glitch, I HOPE. OTHER than that Everything Looked GOOD. I've gained 20 lbs SO FAR and they FINALLY AGREE I'm drinking enough water!

Paetyn Sophronia Goodman

10.22.08

CONGRATULATIONS Chris and Teesha! She's FINALLY here. Sweet little PAETYN made her debut at 12:23 am Weighing in at 8 lbs 6 oz - OUCH Mama! But she is BEAUTIFUL and both MOM and BABY are doing WELL! Can't WAIT to see HER and get me some SUGAR off of those cute CHUBBY CHEEKS! Good Job Guys!

Dad's DON'T Carve Pumpkins

Well Guess What BP - THIS dad DOES!

10.19.08

We had ANOTHER busy weekend but somehow managed to fit PUMPKIN CARVING into the schedule. Since "Preggers" was HUNGRY (my OTHER nickname is "Porky" if you were wondering!) I opted to stay INSIDE and fix dinner and sent Dad OUTSIDE to help Daisy CARVE pumpkins. Brady was NOT excited about this and protested, "Dad's don't carve pumpkins!" Well, you LOST that one Babe. But didn't they do an AMAZING job? They each drew FACES with a marker, FREEHAND by the way, and then CARVED them out. The really IMPRESSIVE thing is that NEITHER one of them ended up with a stitch of MARKER on their own face! (That's a WHOLE other story, but you'd be SURPRISED what goes DOWN in the PETERS HOME when you put DAD in charge of PRAYERS at night!) Daisy was again the PHOTOGRAPHER - Isn't she GOOD!?! And BELIEVE it or not even DAD had a GOOD TIME carving pumpkins with his LITTLE GIRL!

Oh man... Did I forget my camera again?

While I don't have the PICTURES to prove it, today was an EVENTFUL day! Of course EVERYTHING had to be put on HOLD until AFTER a visit from the vet... Daisy wasn't ABOUT to miss Dr. Pew treating our SICK mama cow. She FOLLOWED Brady and the Doc around the CORRALS hanging onto every WORD they said. In turn, I think Dr. Pew was thoroughly IMPRESSED with BP and his "Pretty Little Girl!" It even WARRANTED a call to Cynthia (she and Karl go WAY back). I finally pried Daisy away from the RANCH BUSINESS long enough to run a few ERRANDS before heading off to Cody Hancock's 2nd Annual Bull Riding. That was an EVENT! There was good FOOD, good FRIENDS, lots of FAMILY, and some pretty good BULL RIDING. There was even an AWESOME dirt bike riding RODEO CLOWN. Daisy got a picture AUTOGRAPHED by her "FAMOUS" cousin Cody Hancock (very ticked BP wouldn't let him sign her BOOT) and from Dad's good friend Lance White (another rodeo clown). I WISH I had a PICTURE because Brady and I decided that Daisy makes One Fine Looking Cowgirl! When things WRAPPED UP there we headed off to Brian and Gwen's for some OUTSTANDING barbecue - Thanks Dad! I ate so much I thought I'd DIE trying to bend over to put my BOOTS back on! And I'm NOT even kidding. I really smashed the YOUNG UNS because when we got HOME they were STILL kicking like crazy. The good news is that Brady felt his FIRST forceful blow. He must have been pretty SHOCKED by it because he said, "He's kicking the HELL outta you!" Uh huh... Maybe now he'll be a little more SENSITIVE to all my MOANS and GROANS!

A Family Affair

10.17.08

Keith came up FRIDAY to help Brady put in a NEW back door so we suckered him into HAULING Daisy up the MOUNTAIN for us. THANKS DAD! Since I didn't HAVE to go to GLOBE I decided to bottle some APPLE BUTTER with the LAST of my apples. And since my FAVORITE Lakeside sister-in-law STOPPED by I suckered her into CANNING with me! I'm not sure how much she ENJOYED it, but I had FUN. I love JESSI, it's great being in this PETERS FAMILY! Thanks for the HELP. Poor Jozie, on the OTHER hand, is TEETHING and NOT doing well at all - And she lets EVERYBODY know it! So to keep her BUSY we gave her a BUBBLE BATH in the sink and she had a GRAND old time! It also WORKED out well for us cause with all the SPLASHING my floors were still CLEAN at the end of the day. How OFTEN does that happen?

And THEN it was the BOYS turn!

We've always HATED our back door. It's been nothing but a PAIN from day one. And now that I'm more of a PORKER I can't hardly OPEN or CLOSE the dang thing! But don't WORRY, Grandpa Keith to the RESCUE! And he called in the RESERVES (Britain and Brigham). I had to run to HAWKEYE to pick up 8 bales of moldy COW HAY so I missed MOST of the action. But I wasn't too UPSET because Brady FINALLY brought home the "Ranch Truck" and she's a real SCREAMER! Thanks Daddy. Luckily, Daisy has turned OUT to be quite the PHOTOGRAPHER! How many picture takers would CLIMB a TREE to get the "Perfect Shot?" Thanks KIDDO for capturing all the ACTION. And thanks BOYS for all the HARD WORK! Then, of COURSE, there were calves to Brand, Ear Tag, Castrate & Vaccinate. The FUN never ceases!

But THIS was the REAL reason for GRANDPA'S trip!

Our SWEET little Jozie Girl! After all the HARD WORK Jessi invited the whole CREW over for dinner. What a WOMAN - Brigham is sure a LUCKY man! We EVEN got to SAMPLE our Apple Butter (every bottle SEALED just so ya know!). And Jozie made Grandpa's trip WORTH WHILE when she call him GRANDPA for the very FIRST time!

23 Wks As of 10.16.08

This picture is COMPLIMENTS of BP! I was watching TV today while Brady was in on the COMPUTER and a commercial came on for that show - How To Look GOOD Naked. I started laughing and ASKED Brady if I should SIGN up. He thought that was pretty FUNNY and started laughing himself. His reply? It's NOT gonna do you any GOOD for a while! So TONIGHT I was standing in front of the FIRE thinking about it and Brady wanted to know what I was SMILING about - so I told him. We had ANOTHER good chuckle. Well after a WHILE I glance over at Brady and he's STARING at me with this huge GRIN. I ask what he's THINKING about - kinda DANGEROUS when he's got that LOOK on his face! He wants to KNOW if I have ANY IDEA what I look like from the SIDE. Obviously we don't see OURSELVES the way that OTHERS see us. So, he MADE me get my CAMERA (the man who HATES pictures) and then proceeds to take SEVERAL pictures of me from the SIDE so he could SHOW ME. My OBSERVATION - Once you get PAST the slicked back HAIR and (chubby) WASHED face, the rest is pretty IMPRESSIVE! I can't even BELIEVE it's me in there! But, I've decided that with ONLY 14 weeks to go (delivery at 37 Wks)I look Pretty DANG Good! No worries though, I WON'T be appearing on How To Look GOOD Naked anytime soon!

Cowboy Daddy

10.11.08

FINALLY - A weekend at HOME! And it was just the TWO of us. It was LOVELY. I really TREASURE these times now that I realize they will be FEW and FAR BETWEEN for at least the next 18 YEARS. Everyone thought the weather was NASTY, but I LOVED it! We COZIED up to the first FIRE of the season, watched MOVIES and ate POPCORN. Marital BLISS - I'm EASY, I know! Anyhow, while Brady was BUILDING the fire I was THUMBING through his RANGE magazine (hard up for some reading material) and came across this HILARIOUS article called COWBOY DADDY. Maybe it's only FUNNY to ME because I've been in this LADY'S SHOES - Pregnant and NOT wanting to be compared to a COW! I was LAUGHING so hard I had to START OVER and read it out loud to BP. When we were planning In-Vitro (and even AFTER I became pregnant) I had to keep REMINDING Brady that I would be PREGNANT (not BRED) That I would carry for 9 MONTHS (not 8) That I would DELIVER the baby (vs DROP a calf) That it didn't matter if I had the baby in the SPRING (ideal CALVING SEASON) And I'm not even gonna go there on the Weight Expectancy Chart - He STILL threatens me with this one! So here's the STORY, kinda long but a GOOD READ!

Cowboy Daddy
By Marci Whitehurst

Perhaps it’s the bawl of a new calf. Maybe it’s heifers that always seem to calve at night. Invariably, when calving season hits, I remember impending parenthood. Roughly eight years ago, my husband and I found out it wasn’t just the cows which were going to experience the miracle of birth.
“Are you sure?” The brim of my husband’s hat dropped with his jaw.
“I had a blood test.”
“That sure, huh?”
We were pretty young. I had been told my chances of having children were slim to none, so we were simultaneously shocked and overjoyed.
The news of our pregnancy came on the eve of calving season. My cowboy found himself in “baby mode.” He quickly whipped out his cattle gestation calendar and reported my due date. (“What do you mean there’s a gestation difference?”) He flailed his arms and spouted phrases like “just before weaning time,” “not during haying season,” and “maybe during a storm or full moon.” He quipped that he would know just what to do because he’s helped many animals in “my condition.” It never occurred to him that I might not like being compared to a cow. I gently reminded him I was not some heifer. That’s when he put away his weight-expectancy chart.
Pregnancy does funny things to a woman. Those hay slivers that I continually brushed out of our bed began to irritate me. Anything but hamburgers made me gag. And cow manure on clothing – a fact of life – was not allowed within 50 feet of the house. “Don’t even think about kissing me until you’ve hosed off and stripped in the yard,” I found myself hollering.
Pregnancy also changes a man. It certainly changes the size of his wallet. All the things that are needed for a child add up: the four-door pickup, the tractor with the enclosed, air-conditioned cab, and the tack. And that’s just the beginning.
With tack catalogs strewn across the kitchen table, my hubby could hardly contain his excitement. “What kind of kid’s saddle should I get?”
“Well, the baby’s the size of a bean right now, so I’d go with something small. Let’s not get carried away.”
At our initial doctor’s appointment, my husband came with spurs on and his head cocked like a rooster. An early ultrasound was included, so my cowboy told me what to expect because he’d done ultrasounds for preg checking.
As the doctor performed the ultrasound, he asked, “Are you feeling okay?”
My husband replied, “I’m a little tired.”
Intuition told me the doctor was thoroughly impressed with my man, especially when the ultrasound procedure also included a complimentary bovine narrative. My cowboy actually went into a minilecture on the similarities of my reproductive system and a cow’s. Maybe we could’ve saved money at Trans-Ova, the local cattle embryonic center.
Once my belly began to bulge, so did my man’s ego. Why read baby books when he’s seen a million bovine births? It wouldn’t be that different… would it?
One “difference” came when the baby began kicking. My husband put his hand on my belly expecting to feel a small tap and was blown away when the baby actually moved his hand with a forceful little blow. This was the first time I heard him scream like a girl.
The second scream occurred in Lamaze class. It was not the videos that made him holler. No, it was another forceful blow – this time by another expectant mother who didn’t tolerate bovine comparisons very well. Needless to say, we didn’t make any lifelong friends there. The calf-pulling conversation didn’t help.
When labor did begin, I was in denial. It was early. My husband convinced me to go the hospital because I was “walking around like a cow with my tail up.” I promised to go, if he promised not to say that in the delivery room. When we arrived at the hospital and labor was confirmed, my husband obliged, and explained he knew what was happening because he had “seen it in his field.”
When our daughter arrived, cowboy instincts let loose and he nearly fainted. The man can castrate a steer, pull a calf, and inspect afterbirth… but a human umbilical cord made him woozy! All his jitters passed away, though, when our beautiful girl was placed in his arms.
Pride has been taken to a whole new level. Stories of tagging, penning, and roping will always make a cowboy beam, but a child is like all these tales and then some. Put some cowboy daddies together and they can talk!
“Why just last week my six-year-old daughter drove the truck while I forked off hay.”
“Oh yeah, well my five-year-old won first prize at the mutton busting.”
“That’s nothing. My two-year-old roped a steer on his first try, blindfolded.”
Even with their stories, cowboys do make great fathers. They help their kids learn about life via the ranch. They teach them to make hay forts. They encourage them to open gates. The only thing that continues to puzzle me is this: How can a cowboy be immune to the stench of manure and stick his hands in the tightest of places, but changing a diaper induces tears or vomiting?

October Conference at Haystack Ranch

10.3,4,5.08

We are OFF again! This time to the Smart's ranch with the Wyatt's (Vinnie, Lora Leigh, Caden, Kamrielle & Carder) and the Boggs' (Josh, Kaylene & Mason). You have to be a BRAVE soul to travel that TREACHEROUS road! We arrived LATE Friday night and I was SICK! This pregnancy business has some SERIOUS drawbacks! But we stayed up till way past MIDNIGHT then rose BRIGHT and EARLY to send the BOYS off on their ROUND UP. Daisy was TICKED that she wasn't ALLOWED to go (Thanks BP for BACKING me UP on this one), but managed to have FUN with the other KIDS while they were gone. They played OUTSIDE while the ladies watched CONFERENCE and were treated to OUTSTANDING pedicures by the talented MISTY. The boys came HOME early with a LOT of cows that had to be Branded, Counted, Horns Trimmed, Vaccinated, Castrated... Did I MISS anything? The KIDS jumped right in & by the LOOKS of it were a BIG help! Daisy & Colton were especially FUN to watch while trying to SAVE Brady from a swarm of MAD hornets! By the END of the day our MEN were covered from HEAD to TOE with Dirt, Sweat, Blood & some Funny SMELLING Green Stuff! Although they were EXHAUSTED, they were all GRINNING from ear to ear. Needless to say we RETIRED EARLY that night! Sunday morning we SLEPT in then spent a RELAXING day watching CONFERENCE. With this "Pregnancy Brain" I had a HARD time concentrating, but didn't fall ASLEEP one time! Impressive, I KNOW! But I am LOOKING forward to the NOV Ensign... I already need a REFRESHER. A BIG Thank You to the Smart's, Wyatt's & Boggs' for all the GOOD food & good TIMES! Looking FORWARD to APRIL! We'll have a LITTLE more to CONTRIBUTE to the "CHAOS" by then!
